Welcome
The Naples Island Swim has a long history in Long Beach and the
Long Beach Grunions are pleased to
host the event on Sunday, July 27, 2008
Sunday, September 14, 2008. This year's event
will consist of a 1-Mile Classic race through Rivo Alto Canal and around
Treasure Island and a 3-Mile Challenge race around Naples Island. Even
if you are not a swimmer, come out, enjoy the day, and cheer on these
fantastic athletes.
After the race enjoy Long Beach, Belmont Shore, and Naples Island with
their many attractions, restaurants, and outdoor activities. For a few

Location
Alamitos Bay, at approximately 5437 E. Ocean Blvd, Long Beach.
(Bay Shore and 54th Place between Ocean and 2nd St). Parking is
available along Ocean Blvd and at the city lots at 54th Place and
La Verne Ave for 25¢ for 15 minutes. Bring quarters. Definitely no
parking after 9:00 AM along Bay Shore or 54th Place (Strict towing).
Time
Check-in: 7:00am
Registration and Check-in close @ 8:45am
1 Mile Classic starts at 9:00am
3 Mile Challenge starts at 9:20am
Entries & Fees
Open to all swimmers 18 years old or older as of
July 27, 2008 September 14, 2008
with current United States Masters Swimming (USMS) registration.
A copy of your USMS card MUST accompany each entry. Be
prepared to show the card on race day!
Online registration is now closed. Beach registration will be
available on the morning of the swim. You may download an entry form
from this site to expedite your registration process. Note that there is
no mail-in registration.
If you have previously registered and cannot join us for the swim on
September 14, please contact us at naples@lbgrunions.com.
We will then be able to refund your registration fee.
The Long Beach Grunions would like to thank all the swimmers for your
patience and understanding as we had to postpone the Naples Island Swim
originally scheduled for July 27.
Rules
2008 USMS rules
will govern these races. ALL SWIMMERS MUST BE REGISTERED WITH UNITED
STATES MASTERS SWIMMING (USMS).
Awards & T-Shirts
Special custom Naples Island Swim medals will be awarded to the top
three competitors in each race, age group and gender. Wetsuits and
neoprene caps are allowed, but swimmers wearing them are not eligible
for awards. A custom T-Shirt to commemorate this year's event is included
as part of your entry fee.
Conditions
Water temperature for this race ranges between 63-70 degrees in late July.
The courses are located entirely within Alamitos Bay (no surf). Wetsuits
and neoprene caps are allowed, but swimmers wearing them will not be
eligible for awards. 3-Mile swimmers are encouraged to bring paddlers on
paddleboards. Personal kayaks will not be permitted. Please note that due
to course changes last year the 3-Mile Challenge is a little less than
3 miles and the 1-Mile Classic is slightly greater than 1 mile. A course
map will be provided at the starting area and is also available
here.
Time Limit
Anyone still in the water at 11:30am will be picked up and returned to
the finish area.
